Desert Minerals is a Namibian precious and base metals explorer wholly owned by Clarity.
The Central Damaran Belt, where gold was first discovered by German colonists at the turn of the last century, is the company's main exploration focus. The properties are under joint venture from Helio Resource Corp whereby Desert has an option to earn a 75% interest. Interest in this region was renewed in the 1980's and 90's following the discovery of the Navachab Gold Mine (10.4 MT grading 2.3 g/t Au) by Anglo American. Much of Desert's ground was formerly held by Anglo which conducted a considerable amount of exploration, including diamond and RC drilling. Anglo identified a large, low grade, gold resource on the Otjimbojo property. However, based on its geological theory of that time, Anglo believed the property would not meet its minimum requirements.
Recent exploration conducted by Desert's geological team has identified the possibility of epithermal mineralization and the previously unidentified importance of the N-S structural direction. A number of inaccuracies in Anglo American's borehole locations have been identified leading to a better understanding of the mineralization and its much larger potential.
In the north of Namibia, Desert has an application over an area with significant copper and gold mineralization in grab and channel samples. The wide distribution of these results and anomalies associated with soil and stream sediments are suggestive of a large mineralizing system.
