Savannah Diamonds Limited is a Tanzanian
dedicated diamond exploration company. Its highly experienced management
team has an international track
record of discovery and finance.
The company has approximately 70,000 km2 of ground under licence, on application or under offer for all minerals except
building materials or alluvial gemstones. All "non diamond" mineral
rights e.g. gold, base metals and uranium, are being "spun out" to two sister
companies, Dhahabu Resources and Mwamba Minerals.
The company's ground lies entirely within the 290,000
km2 Tanzanian Craton, which hosts most of the country's 360 known
kimberlites as well as five major gold mines, all of which have opened within
the last ten years. However, much of the cratonic area is either unexplored or
has not been prospected since the 1960's.
There are several sound geological reasons to expect significant mineral
discoveries in the future. Savannah has rapidly
applied modern exploration techniques to this ground - over 17,000 km2 has been surveyed (25% of the land package) by high resolution aerial magnetics
and radiometrics.
The existence of a North-South watershed provides
an innovative theory as to why sampling - the only kimberlite exploration
technique available over 50 years ago -would not have been effective. Thus far, 161 of a total of 370 dipolar
magnetic anomalies have been sampled, mapped and drilled resulting in the discovery
of 19 new kimberlites and the verification of two previously known. A
Mini-bulk sampling (DMS) plant was commissioned in 2008 and five x 100 tonne
kimberlite samples were treated. The best grade from the largest (4 ha)
body so far sampled is 8.8 cpht at a 1mm cut-off, with the largest diamond
weighing 1.68 mc.
