Chairman Desert Minerals
Kaunda Lembalemba became Chairman of Desert
Minerals and Extrata Holdings in October 2008.
Prior to joining
Clarity, Kaunda held a variety of high profile ministerial positions in the
Zambian government, beginning with five years as Deputy Minister of Mines. In 1997, he was appointed Minister of
Mines. He was briefly appointed Cabinet
Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Water Development in 2002 returning
shortly thereafter to the Ministry of Mines as a Cabinet Minister. He also held the position of Government
Chief Whip in Parliament
During his
tenure of office, Kaunda represented the Zambia Mining Industry at various
Mining Forums in the UK, Australia, South
Africa, Canada
and many African countries building a network of important contacts and
friends. His work contributed to Zambia becoming
a choice investment destination for the international community.
Kaunda was responsible
for drafting the current 5 year development plan for the future of the mining industry
in Zambia. He played a key role in the privatization of
mines program conducted by ZCCM, a Government owned conglomerate comprising
five of the largest copper mines in Zambia.
