Bulawayo, Zimbabwe: Duration Gold Ltd. (“Duration”), Whetstone Minerals Ltd. (“Whetstone”) and Clarity Capital Ltd. (“Clarity”) (collectively the “Clarity Group”) have signed a Capacity Building Memorandum of Understanding with the Bubi Small Scale Miners Association (“BSSMA”). Aimed at assisting small miners to overcome their day to day operational challenges and constraints, the Clarity Group and BSSMA will work together to develop and implement a series of enabling programmes.
Once successfully implemented in the Bubi district, these programmes will serve as a model to be launched in other regions where the Clarity Group operates.
It is envisaged that the initial programmes will include the design, development and implementation of the following initiatives:
- Five eco-friendly custom milling sites (the “Facilities”);
- The Facilities shall be available to all small scale miners who wish to have their ore processed in, and their smelted gold returned, in an independent and secure environment;
- Ongoing education and training courses for members of the BSSMA covering a wide range of subjects, including mineral opportunity identification, mineral prospecting, environmental protection, gold processing and smelting, health and safety best practices, business skills training etc;
- Members of the BSSMA shall receive certain additional benefits in respect of the Facilities.
The parties expect that the following benefits will accrue to the BSSMA and the local Bubi community at large:
- A milling facility in closer proximity to small miners’ operations than previously available;
- A reliable milling facility that performs an honest service that will gain the trust of small miners;
- The removal of poisonous metals and toxins from the processing and smelting process for the good of the community and the health and safety of small miners as well as the local population;
- The availability of machinery and skilled operators for hire at reasonable rates;
- The ready availability of mining supplies at fair prices so that small miners avoid having to source them from urban centres:
- A hub for the creation of sustainable businesses, as well as additional employment, in the Bubi community.
