Zambian President visits his birthplace, Duration Gold's Vubachikwe mine, Gwanda, Zimbabwe
Clarity Capital ("Clarity") is pleased to announce that the President of Zambia, the Hon. Rupiah Banda, visited Duration Gold Ltd.'s ("Duration") Vubachikwe gold mine, near Gwanda, Matabeleland, Zimbabwe on Sunday, May 3, 2009.
The visit saw a number of high profile government officials from both Zambia and Zimbabwe come together at this Duration sponsored event. These included Cabinet Ministers, His Royal Highness the Senior Zambian Chief, Ambassadors, Service Chiefs, the Governor of Matabeleland South, MPs, Senators, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, senior civil servants, councillors and friends. What was intended to be a relatively low key affair of 50 people was transformed into a catered tea and mine tour for over 200 participants.
The Zambian President, whose father worked for many years at the Vubachikwe mine, took the opportunity to visit his birthplace and reminisce with many of his father's friends and work colleagues. Morris Thompson, director of Duration Gold, whose family has successfully operated the Vubachikwe gold mine for three generations, welcomed his guests with an opening address.
After a suitable quote from Rudyard Kipling, Mr. Thompson was noticeably pleased to advise the President that: "...Forbes and Thompson Limited, the historic mine operator, had taken the Vubachikwe mine from 6 level (600 ft) to 36 level (3,600 ft) during the 58 year period since the President was last on site."
The President responded by accepting Mr. Thompson's invitation to return in short order to inspect Vubachikwe's progress. Aware that Clarity was already actively exploring in Zambia under its Desert Minerals banner, the President also extended a standing invitation for Mr. Thompson and Clarity to expand their mining operations into Zambia where they would be welcomed with open arms.
